2011 Virtual Science Fair

Registration for the 11th annual Canada Wide Virtual Science Fair will open October 31, 2010. More details will be available in early September.

One change we are considering is requiring projects to have an alternative to Adobe Flash content (buttons, movies, animations). Recently I have purchased an iPad and I feel they may soon become very popular with students.  iPads do not support Flash and indications are that they will not in the near future.

Judging 2010 Update #6

Sunday May 16, 2010

Judging continues slow but sure. I have nearly completed the second review of the projects, this time taking into account the teacher evaluations. Later this week I will be asking some judges to review selected projects in more detail.

The goal is to have the final results available by the end of May.

Judging 2010 Update #5

Sunday May 9, 2010

The first review of projects continues.  Some points of note:

  • Some projects do not display using the URL www.virtualsciencefair.org/2010/project_userid and thus can not be judged.
  • Many projects do not provide the sources of the images used.  See: Citations
  • Some projects failed to reduce the file size of images. See: Image File Size
  • There are about 10 teachers who have not submitted their evaluations. See: Teacher Evaluations

Judging 2010 Update #4

Thursday May 6, 2010

Teachers Please Note:

As emphasized in many emails, the Rules section, and the blog the project must display using the URL www.virtualsciencefair.org/2010/userid (where userid is the team/project userid)

This means the top page must have been named index.htm

When judging your students projects please do so using this URL or access the projects from the Teacher Zone ( which automatically uses this format).

Projects that do not display using this format will not be judged.

Judging 2010 Update #3

Wednesday May 5, 2010

After eliminating incomplete projects from grades K-3 and 10-12, the number of projects remaining is 502. I will be working on the first review of the 4-6 and 7-9 projects today and Thursday.

Teachers are urged to submit their evaluations as soon as possible.
